10 Lessons WWE Can Learn From The Biggest SummerSlam Buy-Rates Ever
2. Length Of The Build To The Show…
Another crucial factor in getting fans to buy in—quite
literally—to the PPV, is the preceding build to the show itself.
In recent years, PPV builds seem to have been getting shorter and shorter, as an increasingly jam-packed calendar has meant that we usually get just a month or so in between each event. But rather than leaving audiences jaded, those shorter builds don’t seem to have affected SummerSlam too badly.
Four of the five most-purchased PPVs have had some of the shortest builds in SummerSlam history, with just 28 days passing since their preceding PPVs, such as the Great American Bash or an In Your House event. Meanwhile, the shows from the old days that used to receive two, three, even four months of build each fared far worse in terms of buys, with none of these instalments ranking any higher than ninth on the total buys list.
Having recently jumped back into a brand split, this could be rather promising news as you can bet that the busy PPV calendar is only
going to get even more chock-a-block in the forthcoming years. And if history's anything to go by, it looks like that won't be affecting the interest in SummerSlam too badly.
