10 Lessons WWE Can Learn From UFC

4. Internal Business

When UFC appointed Garry Cook as Managing Director And Executive Vice President of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, it was a very notable business move. Cook had previously been the CEO for English Premier League giants Manchester City, and before that was a President at Nike. He joined UFC in 2012 and oversaw a period of solid international expansion, making MMA the fastest growing sport in the world. He's now working for the company as Chief Global Brand Officer/ Head of International Business Development, which has seen the UFC holding events in Poland, Sweden, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines and many other big territories in 2015. In contrast, WWE is much less open to external forces coming into the company. Look at the people in big positions with Vince McMahon, you have Stephanie as Chief Brand Officer and Triple H as Executive of talent, live events and creative. There's a myriad of other people at the top of the company who have been there for numerous years, including producer Kevin Dunn who is just one of several top guys who has worked with Vince since the eighties. In taking a giant step forward, maybe WWE need to make a big corporate appointment with the kind of background that Cook had when he joined UFC. It could be a game changer. There's certainly concern amongst investors as to who will one day succeed Vince, as the corporate viability of Stephanie and Hunter is big question mark.
