Pro wrestling is an historically awful industry plagued by deranged carnies, unscrupulous promoters and predators. Even now, when the modern generation appears to be a better breed of people, harrowing stories emerge from its wretched underbelly. Every last promotion has deemed it unnecessary for wrestling systemically reform itself.

It's not a nice racket, but some real heroes have emerged from what was once a glorified mafia.

Diamond Dallas Page has saved the lives of Jake Roberts and Scott Hall with his selflessness. Those two stories remain astonishing; in a death-plagued industry, those two men were simply going broadway in their dangerous dance. Page's commitment to uprooting his own life to save theirs was beyond admirable.

He rarely receives praise on this author page, but Triple H's dedication to saving Shawn Michaels deserves immense praise. The tales of bag-carrying and ass-kissing don't carry the same cynicism, when he reached out his hand from the top of the card. Davey Boy Smith Jr. in 2017 prevented a woman's attempted suicide by using his grappling prowess to remove her from the edge of a bridge.

Shad Gaspard's incredible sacrifice should never go unmentioned as one of the single most profound acts of humanity ever recorded, whether in this stranger corner of life or any other.
