10 Live Observations From EVOLVE 61
6. Fred Yehi Is A Top Talent
Fred Yehi only made his EVOLVE debut last year, but he's rising up the ranks fast. At Mercury Rising in Dallas, Yehi was defeated by Drew Gulak, but the leader of Catch Point offered Yehi a spot in the stable. EVOLVE has only run a couple of shows since then, but the association will undoubtedly raise his stock even further.
At EVOLVE 61, Fred Yehi and TJP of Catch Point battled each other for a slot in WWE's Cruiserweight Classic tournament. TJP, formerly TJ Perkins, is an independent wrestling legend. He's only 31, but he's been wrestling for 17 years. He's a former TNA X Division Champion as Manik, and in 2003, CMLL named him their "Best New Sensation."
None of that stopped Yehi from taking it to TJP, using his unique style to flummox his partner-turned-opponent. Yehi's memorable offense is heavy, at least in the early goings, on stomps, and while that may sound strange, it makes for some innovative spots. Yehi attacked TJP's feet early in the match, then when he had the star down, drove the flat of his boot into his joints. TJP won, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more from Yehi.
