10 Longest Gaps Ever Between WWE World Title Matches
2. Goldberg - 13 Years, 2 Months, 5 Days
The 10 years that Lesnar, Rocky and Boss Man had to wait will feel like a second to the man who challenges Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship this Sunday at WWE Fastlane. Goldberg only returned to the ring this past November at Survivor Series, but the response to his return has been so positive that it seems inevitable that Owens is indeed next - and that Goldberg will have gold around his waist once more.
Owens fans may see this as unfair, but Goldberg fans will argue that their man never received a chance to win back the championship unfairly stolen from him at Armageddon 2003. It's a different belt, but you get the idea. Going into the main event of that pay-per-view, in December 2003, Goldberg was the World Heavyweight Champion - but two stern challenges stood in his way in the shape of Triple H and Kane.
If you're thinking that Kane was positioned in the match so that Goldberg could lose the title without being pinned, you are dead wrong. Goldberg was low-blowed and chokeslammed before Batista, of all people, hit the ring to eject Kane, allowing Triple H to pick up the win and end Goldberg's title reign. Goldberg never received a rematch.
Is it therefore sweet justice that Goldberg's 13-year wait for a Championship match will end this Sunday against the man who had the title handed to him by Triple H?
