10 Longest Matches In WWE History
8. Shawn Michaels Vs. John Cena (23 April 2007): 55 Minutes 49 Seconds
Three weeks removed from a fantastic match at WrestleMania 23, Shawn Michaels and John Cena came together for a rematch that somehow bettered their pay-per-view bout on this, an otherwise throwaway episode of Monday Night Raw.
While not quite on the same level as his legendary bouts with The Undertaker and Chris Jericho, it compares favourably with any other from HBK's fantastic second WWE run. Him and Cena utilised smart psychology, with both targeting separate body parts, and while the first half was admittedly sullied by stalling, the pace picked up as the clock ticked away.
By the time it had finished, few could believe they'd been watching the same bout for close to an hour. Such was the storytelling brilliance of Michaels. Combined with Cena (who, in 2007, was evolving into 'Big Match John' before our very eyes), he made magic, and delivered a PPV-calibre contest that almost harked back to the Sammartino era's titanic main event struggles.
Is it the greatest match in Raw history? Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and the Two-Man Power Trip (21 May 2001) might have something to say about that, but it was a classic nonetheless.
