10 Longest Matches In WWE History
7 (Tie). Bruno Sammartino Vs. Dr. Bill Miller (12 July 1965): 60 Minutes
Modern fans can be forgiven for not knowing the name Dr. Bill Miller. A former AWA World Heavyweight Champion he may be, but he's not in the WWE Hall Of Fame. Therefore, he may as well not exist as far as the company's history books are concerned, but he was an important rival for Bruno Sammartino throughout the mid-1960s.
Having made his name feuding with the original Shiek in the Detroit area, Dr. Bill eventually held the WWWF United States Tag Titles with his brother, Ed Miller. He was already clashing with Sammartino before that, though, and this was their longest bout.
The 60-minute runtime suggests another time limit draw, but no: Bruno was victorious. This was sweet revenge for an incident that took place in a tag match a few weeks prior, during which Miller shoot winded the WWWF Champion, before Sammartino tagged back in, bloodying his foe up.
A legitimate tough guy with a strong athletic background, Dr. Bill just couldn't topple the era-defining icon in Madison Square Garden, and Bruno had the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout.
