10 Longest Reigning United States Champions Ever
6. Barry Windham (283 Days)
Ask guys like Ric Flair and Jim Ross about Barry Windham, and prepare to be entertained with stories about a handsome young kid who was also one hell of a pro wrestler.
In the 1980's, there were few performers with as much potential as Windham, and that would parlay into success as United States Champ.
In another tournament final on May 13, 1988, Windham managed to beat Nikita Koloff to become the new champion. At the time, he was part of The Four Horsemen, having just turned heel on his former tag-team partner Lex Luger.
A feud between both men over the US Title seemed only natural.
That's exactly what transpired, and Luger would defeat Windham for the belt at the Chi-Town Rumble pay-per-view on February 20, 1989. Despite the excitement surrounding his win, Lex would only hold the title for 76 days before dropping it to Michael Hayes.
Better things were to come for the 'Total Package', but his reign that followed Windham's paled in comparison to Barry's incredible 283 day possession of the gold.
