Following a titanic Best Of 7 Series against Magnum T.A, Nikita Koloff was able to call himself United States Heavyweight Champion on August 17, 1986.

In the eyes of the fans, his championship victory had been hard-fought, and it wouldn't be the man's last over the following few months.

On September 28, he was booked to beat Wahoo McDaniel and unify the NWA National Heavyweight Title with the United States gold. There was a reason for this, those in charge of Jim Crockett Promotions were determined to make Koloff's reign as champion meaningful.

At 328 days in length, it was also one of the longest in history.

Much like Barry Windham, Koloff would drop the title to Lex Luger. On July 11, 1987, the pair were locked inside the hell of a Steel Cage Match, and it was Lex who came out on top with the United States Title.

Even so, Koloff had secured his place in the history books, although he'd never again hold the belt.
