10 Longest Women's Championship Reigns In WWE History
8. Wendi Richter
Championship Held WomensLength of Longest Reign 239 Days In 8th place its the 2nd ever Womens Champion in WWE history (officially at least, more on that later though) - Wendi Richter. Richter first won the title from The Fabulous Moolah at The Brawl to End It All in July 1984. This reign was ended after 210 days when she was defeated by Leilani Kai at The War to Settle the Score (is it just me or did wrestling events have much better names back in the 80s?). Just over a month later, though, Richter would win back her title from Kai at WrestleMania I, and it was this 2nd title reign which earns her a spot on this list. What is perhaps even more notable than the length of this reign is the controversial manner in which it ended. Most wrestling fans are familiar with the Montreal Screwjob, where Vince McMahon screwed Bret Hart out of the WWE Championship in his Survivor Series match with Shawn Michaels. This was not the first instance of a screwjob in WWE, as twelve years earlier, on Novermber 25, 1985, Richter lost her title in a similar fashion following a plan concocted by - yep, you guess it -Vince McMahon. Richter had been set to defend her Womens Championship against a masked wrestler called The Spider (who turned out to be The Fabulous Moolah). But following a contract dispute with Richter, McMahon was keen to put a new champion in place. Following McMahons orders, The Spider went off-script and pinned Richters shoulders to the mat. At this point the referee delivered a fast three count, despite Richter having kicked out after a count of one. And on this sour note Richters title reign came to an end.
