10 Longest WWE Hardcore Title Reigns Ever

3. Rob Van Dam - 90 Days

932243

We begin the top three longest Hardcore title reigns of all time with the man who would eventually end the title by unifying it with the Intercontinental and European belts, Rob Vam Dam. RVD's 90-day run was his third with the belt, and he began it by defeating Kurt Angle for the title. Angle held the belt for less than the length of an episode of RAW (of course), but what is most notable about this episode is that it took place on September 10th 2001, the day before the attacks on the United States.

Needless to say the out of nowhere attacks on Hardcore champions subsided for a little bit following this, leading RVD to hold the title for so long. This 90-day run was the longest reign of the 24/7 era. Van Dam would lose the belt to The Undertaker at Vengeance, one of the rare times in which the belt was defended in a straight one-on-one match on WWE PPV without any 'hilarious' shenanigans after the match.

As mentioned, RVD was also the last Hardcore champion, when he defeated Tommy Dreamer on August 26th 2002 to unify it with the Intercontinental strap he already held.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
