The man to enter the '96 Rumble immediately after Lawler was none other than Bob Holly, who at the time was in his post-Thurman Plugg and pre-Hardcore limbo. Holly was a solid midcard hand already, and the high point of his tenure in the 1996 Royal Rumble comes in the shape of Vince McMahon's excited cry of 'start your engines!' upon arrival.

Holly lasts 39 minutes and 35 seconds in the 1996 Royal Rumble without eliminating a single individual. The closest he came to eliminating someone eventually brought about his own removal from the match, as he tossed The Ringmaster over the ropes only to be blasted from behind by the Million Dollar Champion, who managed to survive. The Ringmaster? Oh, that was a guy called Steve Austin.

Holly does hit a pretty sweet Frankensteiner, but the move is almost entirely missed by the cameraman. Bob gets his revenge later on in the piece however, as he gets camera time as Jake Roberts hits the DDT in the background. The crowd had been baying for the move all night, yet the production team still managed to miss it.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
