One year after Morrison lasted almost half an hour without eliminating anyone, Finlay fell just one second short of achieving that very goal. The Belfast Brawler entered the 2009 Royal Rumble as the 14th entrant, but his entrance was pretty much entirely missed by the camera crew, as the focus was on Rey Mysterio avoiding elimination by walking over the backs of The Miz and Morrison. Crafty.

Hornswoggle was firmly by Finlay's side at this point, but it is 'Swoggle who eventually helps bring about his 'father's downfall. The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion hits the ring to try and save Finlay from the hands of Kane, and whilst he does manage to avoid the chokeslam it isn't enough to keep the Irishman in the match.

Finlay was exactly the type of competitor who would get long runs in the Rumble without ever really being a threat to win. 2009 was his finest achievement in this regard. Even so, his 29 minutes and 59 seconds wasn't enough to take the crown of 'Longest Appearance Without An Elimination In 2009' however.
