If CM Punk's infamous 'pipe bomb' promo hadn't shaken up the WWE landscape enough, the events that played out on July 17, 2011 rocked it to the core.

The irritated Punk was legitimately prepared to walk out on the company at the expiration of his contract, signing an extension just to make his booked appearance against John Cena at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view. Although numerous fans came to the arena equipped with 'If Punk loses we riot' signs, it was widely accepted that the match would go in Cena's favour with Punk's genuine contract situation being very public information.

The stagnating CM Punk had always been celebrated in his home town of Chicago - the setting for MITB - but nobody could have predicted the incredible reaction Punk received in his home town.

The roar when Punk's theme hit was surreal itself, but the reaction when The Second City Saviour actually won the WWE Championship will never be forgotten. Not only had a historic moment taken place, the line that separates fiction and reality was set ablaze.

Overly-opinionated Australian WWE smark who is definitely not #booty. Slowly angering the IWC one article at a time. We will probably strongly dislike each other - let's be friends! @MattKMarsden
