6. There's No Way Out?

In the above photograph, it looks like The Shield are about to come in for quite the babyface beatdown, unable to stop the oncoming threat from John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus. It's a regularly-used nuance of wrestling, that performers standing inside the ring have no escape from those closing in on their position, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Yes, maybe this related back to that suspension of disbelief, but looking at the image directly tells the viewer nothing about exactly why The Shield are in serious trouble. On the contrary, they arguably have the upper-hand, because their opponents are blocked by three large ropes, and have to navigate through those before they can feast on that tasty Shield flesh. Going even further, the side of the ring closest to the camera is completely open, which means all three members of the heel faction could skedaddle, jump the barrier, run through the crowd and live to fight another day. Instead, they stand there, wait until their opponents enter the ring, and then are powerless to stop the physical pasting which has been penned by creative.
