10 Major WWE Problems With The Authority

8. Triple H Is No Longer A Believable Heel

While Stephanie McMahon is easily one of, if not the single most hated characters on WWE programming, the same could not be said of her husband. This is partly due to his involvement with NXT, and the fact that its soaring success is so easily connected to his involvement makes it extremely hard to hate the on-screen character he portrays.

While it’s true that not everyone watches NXT, the fact is that many of its top stars are beloved characters, and for Triple H to be seen with them while on RAW diminishes his ability to play a proper heel. For example, when Kevin Owens made his debut, shortly after dropping John Cena with a pop-up Powerbomb, he was seen shaking hands with Triple H. While both of them might play heels, the reaction that both of them got was overwhelmingly positive.

WWE has reached a point where it has become extremely difficult for characters to be separated from the men and women who portray them. In Triple H’s case, he has excellent at playing a bad guy for many years, but at this point, his connection with NXT makes it virtually impossible for him to get serious boos. Anytime he insults the (smart) crowd, most people are aware that he’s just following a Vince-approved script, knowing that HHH himself doesn’t believe what he’s saying.

Because of that, the Authority would be a more convincing heel stable if Triple H wasn’t part of it. Sure, Stephanie and HHH are ‘WWE’s power couple’, but if you look at what the Authority does, HHH hasn’t done anything substantial for the group since WrestleMania XXX. Most of the real heel work has been courtesy of Stephanie anyway, and because of that, the Authority would be more convincing if it was just Stephanie doing the talking, while HHH remained backstage working on NXT.
