In 2004, a backstage altercation between Ric Flair and Mick Foley became so heated that it quickly escalated from snide remarks to a full-blown fist fight in a matter of minutes. The Nature Boy punched Foley across the face after The Hardcore Legend made derogatory remarks about Flairs autobiography; the pair soon required several members of the locker room area to pull them apart. The animosity between the two Hall of Famers was brought to light in Mick Foleys autobiography, Have A Nice Day. Within the book Mick discussed his time in WCW and reflected on the poor management within the company, notably the role in which Flair maintained whilst working there. Foley stated that Flair was every bit as bad on the booking side of things as he was great on the wrestling side of it. The Nature Boy retaliated in his own autobiography, To Be The Man, labelling Foley as nothing more than a glorified stuntman. After hearing about Flairs unflattering published opinion, Foley had a severe case of wounded pride, which would prove a huge factor in their backstage scuffle. Flair actually approached Foley requesting a handshake, which Mick quickly declined. Instead The Hardcore Legend requested a signed copy of The Nature Boys autobiography, suggesting that he could auction it off for charity. Allegedly it was that very comment that led to Flairs punch.
