10 Major WWF Stars (That WCW Stupidly Let Go)

7. Mick Foley

Mick Foley is perhaps most famous in WCW for losing his ear as part of the hard hitting Cactus Jack vs Vader feud. That series offered up several intense battles. There were also some good matches with Sting but ultimately WCW looked upon Jack as nothing more than a guy to take bumps for the real stars. Foley was with the promotion from 1991 to 1994, WCW eventually letting him go when it became clear neither party wanted to work together any more. Indeed, WCW had been allowing Foley to work for Paul Heyman's ECW even when under WCW contract. This led to an ECW promo where Cactus Jack spat on the WCW tag team title, something which upset all his colleagues at the big league promotion. What did they really expect? They had booked Jack quite literally as a tramp. He went on to become a big name for ECW, before jumping over to the WWF. Then the unthinkable happened. Mick Foley actually managed to get over as a WWF main eventer. WCW thought that Vince McMahon had gone crazy, they believed that Foley was a joke. This led to WCW revealing on Nitro that Mick Foley would win the WWF title on a pre taped Raw. The WCW belief was obviously that they figured fans would think that made the WWF a joke, but far from it, droves of viewers switched over to see Foley win the big one. It was a turning point in the Monday Night Wars. A perfect example of how WCW cast off what they thought was valueless talent, only for Vince McMahon to recognise potential.
