Chris Benoit was with WCW from 1995 to 2000, ending up in a top spot as a result of his proficient ring work. Let's be honest here, he may have been a horrible human being, but as a wrestler he was one of the greatest in-ring workers ever. A lot of that legacy is forgotten (and rightfully so) because he murdered his wife and child. Taking emotion out of it though and looking solely on his ring history, this was an all time great worker. Even before signing with WCW he had already made a name for stunningly athletic hard hitting matches in Japan and ECW. WCW messed him around the undercard and midcard for many years, before finally pushing him as the main event and giving him the World Title in early 2000. Benoit's negative experiences in the company (mainly with booker Kevin Sullivan) had however already made his mind up to leave the promotion when his contract expired. WCW had gave him the World Title to try and get him to stay, but it was too little too late, he left the company the very day after winning the championship. WCW had let him go in a roundabout way, creating a situation where Benoit felt he simply had to let his contract expire, even the title wasn't worth it. He went on to become one of the most consistently excellent wrestlers in the WWF, eventually winning their World Title in the then biggest show in WWE history WrestleMania 20.
