10 Matches AEW Did Better Than WWE
8. Cody Rhodes Vs. Jake Hager
Jumping to another altercation between Jake Hager and a member of the Rhodes family now, and to that period in time when The American Nightmare was determined to put on a TNT title show in front of next to nobody in attendance.
Coming during the 2020 Fyter Fest, the then-TNT Champion was very much in the thick of the inaugural run for the vibrant red strap, already besting the likes of Jungle Boy, Marq Quen, and Ricky Starks to retain the title. But in Hager he found his most difficult obstacle to date, with the monstrous Inner Circle man picking up his first-ever All Elite defeat at the hands of the AEW EVP in what was arguably Week One's match of the night.
And with Cody managing to clutch hold of victory whilst locked in the jaws of defeat that were Hager's massive biceps thanks to a sly pin, this dramatic conclusion quickly eclipsed the duo's previous WWE outings on the likes of SmackDown and Superstars. When your other clashes on those aforementioned shows consisted of a far less effective roll-up and lukewarm win for Swags, it's not hard to see why their All Elite fight easily ranks highest.
