Sting vs. Big Van Vader was one of the classic rivalries in WCW. Sting was awesome in his role as the underdog trying to defeat the massive monster that was Vader. The Man They Call Vader would dominate WCW for much of the early 1990s and remain a thorn in Sting's side for many years. They met at Superbrawl III in an unsanctioned White Castle of Fear strap match. Early on, it was obvious how the psychology was going to play out because Vader was simply too big to be dragged around to each corner. Since Sting was unable to overpower his foe, he had to use his speed and intelligence to wear down the big man. The matched featured both guys brutalizing the other with the strap as well as a Samoan drop on Sting from the top rope. Vader absolutely destroys Sting throughout the match, leaving welts on his back and delivering some impressive power moves. Sting eventually makes his comeback and is somehow able to deliver a German suplex to Vader. While bleeding, Sting hammers away in the corner, causing Vader to bleed from his ear. Sting resorts to putting Vader in a fireman's carry and touching the ring posts but he trips on the referee and hits the mat. Vader drags his foe to three corners and Sting attempts to stop him but accidentally kicks Vader into the fourth corner, giving him the victory. It might just be Sting and Vader's best match and is certainly a candidate for the best strap match in recent memory.
