10 Matches WWE Could HONESTLY Call ‘The Greatest Ever’

1. Bret Hart Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WrestleMania 13)

The most important match in company history, Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin's WrestleMania 13 bloodbath was the dictionary definition of wrestling match excellence in both concept and execution. Hart's catchphrase had never been as potent, whilst the mechanics 'The Rattlesnake' had been hired for never fused more fluidly with the chaotic style that would come to form all WWE main events for the company's most prosperous period.

The words committed to the contest never really do it justice even now. An immaculately-told story since Hart returned in November, his slow-burning heel turn engulfed him on the go-home edition of Monday Night Raw when he pushed announcer Vince McMahon to the ground. His babyface persona was burnt to ashes by the end of this almighty war.

Hulk Hogan rose rapidly through the ranks upon his WWE return thanks to countless victories - Stone Cold Steve Austin had his breakthrough in defeat with his shattered face glued to the mat in blood. He had become the biggest babyface in the world before the world (and Vince McMahon) worked out what they wanted, but the incredible work from both men sealed the deal in a way nobody could miss. 'The Rattlesnake' was the hero McMahon needed, with his claret flowing rather than a cape.
