10 Memorably Punishing WWE Matches

3. JBL Vs. Eddie Guerrero - Judgement Day 2004

When this match between Eddie Guerrero and John 'Bradshaw' Layfield went wrong, it went really wrong. Sickeningly, stomach-turningly, canvas-ruiningly wrong.

JBL, in classic jerk mode, smashed Guerrero in the face with a chair. It was a typically ruthless unprotected shot that illustrated JBL's disregard for human life, but that wasn't what made the match stand out.

Guerrero bladed to give himself the crimson mask and add the drama of blood to the match, but according to wrestling lore, he cut way, way too deep. He hit a major blood vessel, perhaps even an artery, and his forehead immediately began spraying like a weak-bladdered tomcat.

The amount of blood spurting out of Guerrero bordered on a Biblical plague but, to his credit, he finished the match. Blood got absolutely everywhere with both men writhing around in a gore-smeared mess until the final, merciless bell brought an end to the horror.
