10 Mistakes WWE Made With Alberto Del Rio

8. MexAmerica

That last point leads us nicely onto our next mistake and the company’s attempt to bridge the differences between Del Rio and Colter with the ill-fated MexAmerica shtick.

The very next night after Del Rio’s United States Championship victory, Colter began quoting John Lennon songs and speaking of America coexisting with Mexico, before declaring that he and Del Rio were delighted to call themselves “proud MexAmericans”.

That in itself was a bit of a stretch, but things became even more farfetched when Del Rio started referring to guys like Neville as immigrants, despite seemingly preaching a message of tolerance.

Basically, the whole MexAmerica thing didn’t really make sense.

Now, this might have been okay if the double-standard had been leading to the heels eventually receiving their comeuppance, but the alliance was soon disbanded before any kind of pay-off would take place.

The whole thing just felt very muddled and really didn’t do anyone any favours.
