10 Mistakes WWE Made With Alberto Del Rio

7. United States Championship Reign

We’ve already touched upon the brevity of that match that kicked off Del Rio’s US title run. Unfortunately for him though, that was just about as good as it got for the champ during his time with the belt.

Over the course of a 78-day reign, Del Rio would defend the title on just three different occasions. The first was a chairs match against Jack Swagger a TLC, which was fairly decent for a chairs match but that’s not really saying much.

He’d then lose to John Cena via disqualification on the Dec. 28 showing of Monday Night Raw before eventually losing the belt to Kalisto just a couple of weeks later.

Again, that in itself sounds disappointing enough, but when you compare it with the epic reigns of Cena that preceded it, all of that great work and effort that had been put into restoring the belt's prestige was pretty much undone by the sparsity of the defences in which Del Rio was booked.
