10 Modern Wrestlers And Their Old School Equivalents
1. Darby Allin & Sting
Of all the entries on this list, Darby Allin and Sting are the most obvious pair, and that is because AEW has wholly invested in their dynamic. As soon as Sting entered Daily's Place at Winter is Coming, fans began to realise the clear connection between the performers, and it comes down to more than just face-paint.
One of the major elements that made Sting cool during his feud with the NWO was his ability to bide his time. Seeing the black and white figure waiting in the rafters was awesome, and he didn't even need to speak to get fans invested.
Allin has a similar approach to his work, as he takes his time with promos and entrances, and is often shown waiting in the bleachers observing his future opponents. This, coupled with the obvious black and white face-paint, makes him entirely reminiscent of The Stinger, to the point that most fans had already caught onto it before Sting's AEW debut.
Unlike the rest of the entries, these two get the luxury of actually working as a cross-generational pairing. They currently share a lot of time on AEW programming, and the Icon's presence is massively raising the future AEW headliner's stock.
