10 Modern WWE Hell In A Cell Matches That Didn't Feel PG

In many ways, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair’s miraculous Raw Women’s Championship match was something that could have only happened in the PG era. After all, WWE only truly started respecting their female talent in the 2010s, with only a few stars getting the opportunity to showcase their abilities beforehand. This monumental match, the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match and the first ever PPV main event for WWE’s women, is an indication of one of the PG era’s greatest successes.

Yet, in terms of physical action, this was more brutal than either of the other two Hell in a Cell matches from 2016. Sasha and Charlotte beat the life out of each other. The match had the narrative and aura of a main event, and both women lived up to expectations by throwing their bodies around with reckless disdain. The notorious table botches actually improved the match, with Sasha’s bumping off of the wood looking horrific and adding to the danger of the stipulation.

It was a brutal and brilliant way to start off the women’s era of Hell in a Cell matches, capturing the sense of the classic Cell matches while reinventing who could appear in them.
