10 Moments That Defined Impact Wrestling In 2020

4. A World Class Maniac

Eric Young
Impact Wrestling

Impact Wrestling teased a number of surprises for their 18 July Slammiversary pay-per-view, which we'll dive into shortly, but one of the greatest successes of that night was the return of Eric Young.

Coming back home after a terrible time in WWE, Young was immediately cemented as a killer, as he sent Rich Swann, who had also just returned that same night after a spell on the injured shelf, back to that same shelf. The rivalry that followed between those two was superb from start to finish.

A second run as World Champion allowed 'The World Class Maniac' to show the WWE fanbase that he's actually an immensely gifted talent when he's given the chance to be just that. He doesn't need to be held down by gimmicks, he just needs to be himself.

Whether he was spiking adversaries with that dangerous Piledriver, or heel hooking anyone he could, including Impact EVP Scott D'Amore, 'EY' has reinvented himself this year. Being released from WWE, as is the case with a vast majority of the released talent, was the best thing that could have happened to him.

Now aligned with former All Japan star Joe Doering following his title loss to Swann, Eric Young is out to prove that the world belongs to him.
