10 Moments That Defined Impact Wrestling In 2020

3. Tessa Blanchard's Historic Win

Tessa Blanchard
Impact Wrestling

If you'll skip past the way it ended, Tessa Blanchard's World Championship victory over Sami Callihan at Hard To Kill was one of the biggest moments in company history.

'The Undeniable One' had been built up expertly since her feud with Gail Kim the previous spring, from which she instantly got embroiled with 'The Draw' and the rest of oVe. Tessa's never-say-die attitude got her a long way in Impact Wrestling, and is what led her to earn that main event spot with Callihan for the second time, following their original showdown at Slammiversary 2019.

Of course, we need to address the comments surrounding Blanchard at that particular time. For Impact to insist on making her the face of their promotion, knowing full-well these remarks were going around, was one hell of a booking decision, and one that gained them a lot of flak. Despite this, they went through with making Blanchard their champion.

It's a shame we never saw a huge pay-per-view title defence for her as there was potential there for Tessa to be one of the great World Champions in Impact's storied history. Regardless, she'll forever be in the history books as the first woman to win the World Championship of a major promotion.
