10 Monster Wrestling Matches That Were Devastating Disappointments

3. The Undertaker Vs Giant Gonzalez

Limited in the extreme, Giant Gonzalez wasn't ever really going to be the 1 in 3-1 following WrestleMania 9, but WWE certainly did their best to make it a distinct possibility after the emphatic beatdown he dished out to The Undertaker at January's Royal Rumble.

Height went a long way in 1993, and went even further when the two went nose-to-nose halfway through the 30-man war. Few had ever towered above 'Taker, let alone left him in such a heap that he wasn't even able to perform his signature sit-up in a first threat of recompense.

The second opponent in a long line of formulaic beasts for the babyface Undertaker to slay before finally getting some programmes to sink his teeth into in 1996, Gonzalez was WCW cast-off El Gigante in even more ludicrous gear attempting to find the menace woefully absent from his early-90s spell with the Atlanta outfit.

The January beatdown was loosely successful, not least after Gonzalez was paired with a Harvey Wippleman hell-bent on definitively destroying 'The Deadman' following his 1992 humanisation of Kamala. It mattered not during the initial attack that Gonzalez had literally nothing else left to offer. Stumbling down the aisle ahead of their atrocious WrestleMania 9 ecounter, Gonzalez was literally and figuratively naked save for attire that preserved his modesty more than his offence. The pair never stood a chance.
