10 Monumental Decisions That Changed The Course Of Wrestling History

6. Vince Russo Joins WCW

Listen to many talk about the WWF Attitude Era, and they'll quite often wax lyrical about how ground-breaking and creative the time period was. A lot of that credit is attributed to Vince McMahon, who realised that his product had grown stale in the mid-90's, and that something fresh was needed to spark interest once more in his ailing juggernaut. Inspired by what he was reading from one of his magazine editors, Vince Russo, McMahon gave the writer the task of penning his major television shows, a decision which would prove to be a shrewd move. Russo worked well within the WWF system, but following disagreements over his workload, he elected to move sideways to WCW in late-1999. What followed was an unmitigated disaster. Russo's run with the book at WCW wasn't pretty, and directly quickened the pace at which the promotion was hurtling towards the sun. With that in mind, what if Russo had never joined WCW at all? What if Vince McMahon hadn't flustered his writer by encouraging him to "hire a nanny" when Russo asked for more time off to see his children?
