A moderately successful mid-'90s tag team, Perry Saturn and John Kronus first came together on the independent circuit in 1993, and worked their way to ECW after a tour of Japan in 1995. They were a great fit for Paul Heyman's promotion, and accumulated three separate title reigns throughout their run, but problems arose when Saturn incurred a career-threatening knee injury in 1997.

Perry underwent full reconstructive surgery, and returned to action just a few months later. Things went south thereafter, with Saturn reportedly refusing to reunite The Eliminators after recovering, citing Kronus' lack of motivation as the deciding factor.

Heyman offered him his release. Perry accepted, signed for WCW, then eventually made his way to WWE as part of the radicals. Kronus, meanwhile, languished in ECW's lower reaches, with his career fading away on wrestling's more obscure stages.

The tension had been simmering for a while, and the months leading up to The Eliminators' official split were rife with rumours of backstage scuffles between the two. Saturn would later reveal that he never truly hated Kronus personally, however, adding that he was just frustrated with how his attitude was impacting their careers.
