10 More Wrestling Gimmicks So Bad They Didn’t Even Make It To TV
1. Sparatcus... Goddamn Spartacus
Did you think we'd forgotten about Jim Herd? Well guess what? Jim's back! And he's got his worst idea ever!
If you knew even the first thing about wrestling in the 80s, then you would know that Ric Flair's character was perfect. He was a fantastic promo, a master at getting people to hate him by flaunting his wealth in their face.
He carried the NWA on his back as their roaming champion and was still a huge star when Herd took over WCW. Jim must have gotten a pizza crust lodged in his brain though, because he wanted to change everything that was great about the Nature Boy.
Deciding that the uber-popular WCW champion's time in the main event scene was over, Herd wanted him to cut his hair, adopt a Roman gladiator gimmick, and change his name to Spartacus.
Spartacus. Like the meme.
Ric obviously said no, so Herd fired him. However, Flair still owned the physical world title belt, so when he turned up on WWE TV, he had the championship with him!
This was a huge misstep and one that cost WCW big time in terms of their image.
As for Jim Herd, he didn't last much longer in WCW.
Wonder why...
