10 More Wrestling Gimmicks So Bad They Didn’t Even Make It To TV
5. Christian = Rock Impersonator
Still as entertaining as ever, Christian Cage is a huge part of current AEW programming. Add to that his work with WWE, the NWA, and TNA, and you could make a case that Cage is one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time.
So why did Vince McMahon hate him so much?
Rumour has it that the former WWE big boss wanted to have a blue dot appear over Christian's face when he appeared on screen, because McMahon thought he looked "ratty".
Then there was this nonsense idea: Vince wanted Christian to start impersonating The Rock.
As he recounts on his podcast with Edge, Christian was told that he should start dressing and acting like Dwayne Johnson, right down to his trademark People's Eyebrow movement.
And what would this new character's name have been? The Lock.
Because he was "a lock" to win. Right.
This gimmick would have severely limited Captain Charisma's upward trajectory, but that's not the biggest missed opportunity WWE would have had with this pairing.
How these two never formed a tag team called "Christian Rock" that came out to a Creed song we'll never know.
