In early 2012, Kane wanted John Cena to "embrace the hate" within himself.

They say that the best wrestling gimmicks are slight embellishments of the real human being, and Glenn Jacobs is a hateful pr*ck, so this worked. It's not one of the best wrestling gimmicks - 'believable' is a more accurate word - but you get the idea.

On the February 13, 2012 RAW, Kane abducted Eve Torres in an attempt to draw John Cena into his maw because Cena was protective over Zack Ryder, who had a crush on her. He was made to look like a completely f*cking injured geek because he got over when they didn't want him to get over.

Kane wanted to do this in order to work Cena into a heightened emotional state and turn heel. What was he: a message board poster who had no grasp of the television landscape?

The issue with this angle - other than it being sh*t and the death of a promising performer's WWE career - is that it was also completely botched. The director cut to the scene much too early, and Eve was caught casually walking into the ambulance. Sensing the error, a production hand poked Kane in the back with his rolled-up notes before the big lug closed the doors.
