10 Most Alarming Ways WWE Rewrites History
8. Stay In Their Good Graces, Or You Don’t Exist
Vince McMahon can be very forgiving if it’s good for business. To his credit many other people who own companies would not have let one of their ex-employees like The Ultimate Warrior say such awful things about them, and yet still bring them back years later.
But when any sort of scandal hits, you’re out, and you may as well not even exist to them. Now, in the case of Chris Benoit, that makes sense. Avoiding saying his name whenever possible is fine (though it’s always a bit awkward listening to Booker T talk about his Best-of-7 series knowing he can’t say his opponent's name), but as we’ve seen in the past and present, certain wrestlers can disappear from WWE lore for committing far less serious offenses.
For example, Randy Savage was virtually non-existent until his under-hyped Hall of Fame entry in 2015. Steve Austin was given a rude farewell on-air for no-showing an event. Chyna was persona non-grata until she died. Kurt Angle is pretty much forgotten. Hulk Hogan’s name and image have been erased (for now) due to his racist tirade. Mentioning anything about CM Punk is a big no-no and Alberto Del Rio is surely soon to join him.
While WWE is a company, it’s also a television show, so it’s a bit odd that they feel it's okay that some people just go in-and-out of existence and big chapters in their history simply can't ever be discussed.
