10 Most ANNOYING Wrestlers Ever
2. ‘Evil Boss’ Vince Russo
Entire books have been written about the nonsense Vince Russo got up to whilst calling plays during WCW's final few years, but it'd be foolish to pin full blame on any one person within the company for its demise. However, it's definitely fair to point out that Russo became a weekly annoyance on top shows like Nitro and Thunder throughout the year 2000. Some of the content he was involved in was ridiculously bad.
Here's where things get messy. For all its faults, 2000-era WCW did chuck up some entertainment value. It was a car crash of gimmick matches, finishes that didn't make any sense, rambling promos that went nowhere, poorly produced backstage skits and confusing storylines, yes, but revisiting TV and pay-per-view from the year is worth your time if you fancy a laugh.
People weren't laughing at the time though. Russo's 'evil boss' character dominated Nitro to diminishing returns. He even wrestled a few matches and won the WCW World Title. Typically, Vince then vacated the belt one week later, thus rendering his win totally pointless to begin with. The whole company was a topsy turvy, twisted mess of half baked ideas that saw ratings, buyrates and live event attendance tumble simultaneously.
Russo's spotlight hogging was one of the biggest offenders amongst viewers. They wanted to see names like Goldberg, DDP, Booker T, Scott Steiner and others, not another loudmouth heel authority figure who was walking around the place with a baseball bat and winning steel cage matches.
What a reign of terror this was.
