10 Most Awesome Wrestling Submissions (And Who Did Them Best)
5. Cross-Legged STF | William Regal
Out of all the wrestlers who have used a cross-legged STF, it has never been done to the standard of William Regal, and therefore he is the best to ever do it.
Coming out of Blackpool, England, and trained by Marty Jones, Regal has always been a legitimate fighter, utilizing his skills in brawling, submission wrestling and joint manipulation to be one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of the UK. If you want to see his influence on the industry, just look at both Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley, with whom he has aligned with in AEW.
Danielson has name-dropped Regal on many occasions, while Moxley uses a ‘Regal Knee’, but who else uses a cross-legged STF? Kazuchika Okada of New Japan Pro Wrestling has used a kneeling variation during his career, known as the ‘Red Ink’. Jungle Boy, who also wrestles for AEW, uses the cross-legged STF as one of his finishers known as the ‘Snare Trap’.
Regal’s variation of the move uses an arm-trap to inflict even more pain onto his opponents. He is the inventor of this version of the STF, with the former European Champion's variation being labelled the ‘Regal Stretch’.
