10 Most Believable Underdogs In Wrestling Today

5. Orange Cassidy

The Freshly Squeezed one's gimmick is one that immediately lends itself to telling a great story in the ring. It is a blessing that the man portraying the character also happens to be an exceptionally good wrestler, which furthers the crowd's love of him.

A laid-back, super chill guy, Orange Cassidy puts forth just enough effort to get by, which is a sentiment virtually the entire working class can probably relate to. However, get him between the ropes and... he's basically the same guy, at least for a while. The crowd sits on edge waiting for Cassidy to finally, as succinctly put by Best Friend Chuck Taylor, actually try.

Cassidy's move set brilliantly reflects his style, with the character feeding the fighting style, often using traditional moves but employing them in a hands-in-pockets fashion whenever possible. Being able to make good moves look both impressive and effortless is an absolute delight, and most wrestling fans appreciate how difficult a task that can be.

Cassidy’s losses usually don’t hurt him, as he’s often seen as being apprehensive to get in the ring to begin with. Similarly, falling to him can often be booked as a blindsided, under-prepared foe being caught off guard by his unorthodox method. So far, AEW has learned the value of maximizing his minutes, allowing him to be a highlight of each week without overexposing him. Hopefully, they can continue the trend.
