Hey, nobody said a bizarre ending is synonymous with a bad one.

CM Punk's landmark promo in 2011 was many fans' return point to professional wrestling (including my own). The Chicago native explicitly aired his own grievances, but the subtext of his words were clear. WWE had been freewheeling since the Attitude Era, often in the face of good storytelling and good entertainment.

Various parts of the promo were utterly gobsmacking: Punk namedropping other promotions such as NJPW and ROH, running down The Rock's backstage ass-kissing, shouting out his pal Colt Cabana, and - perhaps most shockingly - stating that WWE would be better if Vince McMahon were dead.

Punk changed the game without question, and sent the internet wrestling community into a frenzy.
