Had Triple H not been part of the 'Curtain Call' at Madison Square Garden, pro wrestling history could have been very different. Struggling to gain traction in the company, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin had his biggest night to date at the 1996 King Of The Ring. He was the man chosen to win the tournament in place of Hunter.

Defeating both Marc Mero and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts that evening, Austin was crowned 'King'. Whilst neither of his matches were particularly memorable battles, the man's promo as soon as he emerged victorious has went down in grappling folklore as one of the most impactful ever.

Using Jake's religious gimmick against him, Austin coined the phrase 'Austin 3:16'. Alongside that infamous quote, he also said, "and that's the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so".

It was a marvellous piece of work, one of the most striking promos WWF fans had witnessed for years. Audibly telling fans to "p*** off", Austin opened eyes with his brash nature. People hadn't seen anything quite like it before; this was smack bang in the middle of a more sugar-coated, cartoonish era for the company.
