10 Most Bizarre WWE King Of The Ring Moments
5. Genuine Worries For Mick Foley's Health (1998)
Mere minutes into a Hell In A Cell match between Mankind and The Undertaker, everybody in attendance was left slack-jawed at the 1998 King Of The Ring. Starting the brawl on top of the intimidating structure, Mick Foley was hurled from the cage through an announce table at ringside. It was one of the most incredible bumps in wrestling history.
Knocked loopy by the stunt, Foley later claimed he finds it difficult to remember many portions of the match. That only escalated when he was hit with a Choke Slam on the cell roof, which promptly gave way and sent the wrestler falling through the cage and into the ring canvas below.
Adding insult to injury, a steel chair walloped Mick on the face as he landed. Aside from all the obvious hyperbole being thrown out there by Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler on commentary, there seemed to be genuine worry for Foley's long term health if the match continued.
Even Vince McMahon (flanked by other WWF officials) came out to ensure that Foley was in one piece and lucid.
The heavily-hyped bout turned into a few death-defying high spots and little else, and it was strange to watch someone legitimately put their well-being on the line.
