10 Most Chilling Wrestling Gimmicks Ever

6. Papa Shango

Visualise being a kid watching WWF programming in 1992. Just as you've come to terms with The Undertaker and actually started to like the undead zombie with the dull stare and deliberate movements, along comes a shaman witch doctor (possibly from hell) to provide fresh scares.

Papa Shango is something of a missed opportunity for the WWF. Charles Wright - the man behind the face-painted gimmick - could work, and he really should have been a success. Unfortunately, Shango was only ever destined to stick around for a year or so before being canned. All those potential scares, lost forever.

When he wasn't causing babyfaces like The Ultimate Warrior to spew otherworldly goo from their lungs, Shango was carrying around shrunken heads and ever-shrouded in smoke and mystery. Wright's facial expressions alone were enough to cause wide eyes from kids and adults alike during his brief run under the gimmick.
