10 Most Chilling Wrestling Gimmicks Ever
4. Kane
Take The Undertaker, blend him with Michael Myers from the Halloween movie franchise and you'd have the freakish aura of Kane. The character would become less fearsome over time, but the original masked man was utterly horrifying when he first appeared in late-1997. Even Paul Bearer's warnings to Undertaker that his brother was incoming were palpable.
Said to be impervious to pain, devoid of human emotion and burned beyond repair by fires as a child, Kane really should have made adults laugh during the late-90s - that was the era of more realistic characters like Steve Austin, after all. Instead of mirth though, fans were struck by great performances and an intoxicating feud between so-called siblings that peaked at WrestleMania XIV.
WWE have mucked around with Kane's backstory so much that they've killed the impact of it, but even watching old Kane appearances on the Network still sends a chill up the spine. Bathed in red light and accompanied by unnerving organ music, Kane was always good for a fright during the first few years of his tenure.
