It's fairly obvious what WWE has set out to accomplish with NXT UK.
WWE took one look at the World Of Sport reboot and were appalled at the idea of other wrestling happening anywhere else. This would not do, and so Triple H accelerated his evil plan to take over the wrestling world - the blueprints being "Have wrestlers request matches, and General Managers say "Yes, sounds good" in perpetuity. A tournament was hastily arranged to nip that sh*t in the bud, and this formed the genesis of NXT UK.
Gradually, predictably, those tendrils entwined and stultified the scene - ICW and PROGRESS became feeder promotions, and Trent Seven lost a Loser Leaves (his own lol) Town match - and those unaffiliated were left to rot as WWE snapped up virtually all of the name talent. The draws were gone, they weren't allowed to work elsewhere (...as independent contractors), the scene was dead.
Mission: accomplished.
In a divisive Twitter post, WoS regular Justin Sysum penned a call to arms pledging to rebuild the scene in an alternative image.
In response, Seven told Justin to "hang his head in shame," since British Strong Style and their ilk had created that which WWE had eviscerated. This created a barney atmosphere for a few days, and it was fun.
Less fun was NXT UK.
