Roman Reigns may or may not, depending on your point of view, be an effective WWE character, but he's one hell of a brave, brave man. Imagine the strength it took for him to stand in front of a rowdy audience to kick off this past Monday's Raw and suddenly reveal that he would be vacating the Universal Title to battle leukaemia.

Reigns knew that he'd be booed by the majority when he made his entrance, and yet he walked through that initial fire without hesitation to deliver his message in person. That's classy, and it's why the man is so respected behind the scenes in WWE.

Opening himself up like never before, Roman peeled back the curtain of fabricated WWE drama to say that he, Joe Anoaʻi, would beat the disease a second time (he was previously diagnosed aged 22) and kick cancer's ass. The fact he took the opportunity to gloss over his own heartache and use his mic time to inspire others was selfless.

What a man - one with serious nerve and mental substance.
