Pro wrestling is full of courageous people.

The very nature of the industry and the dangers it poses night in and night out mean every single man and woman (from top of the card to bottom) who laces up a pair of boots must have some sense of grit and fearlessness. Everyone, without exception deserves respect for that bravery. It's amazing, then, that there are those who have taken things even further.

This list isn't about moments of kayfabe backbone. That's all make-believe, and it has no place amongst stories of real-life personal redemption, forgiveness, candour and mental strength. In an age when openness is more encouraged than ever before, these people should still receive applause for having the balls to expose weakness.

Some of them lived through a period when acceptance wasn't rife, and that perhaps only makes their fortitude even more impressive. Regardless of era though, these are the most honest stories from WWE's archives, and they prove that pro wrestling is full of spirit as well as physical toughness...
