10 Most Courageous WWE Moments
5. Bret Hart Puts Montreal Behind Him
There will be some who baulk at this one being included, probably because Bret Hart earned a handsome coin in WCW after it. Others will point out the silliness of him refusing to drop a 'fake' wrestling title to Shawn Michaels before leaving. That's all well and good, but the infamous 'Montreal Screwjob' meant everything to Bret.
He felt betrayed by a boss he'd given everything for (Vince McMahon), disrespected by a fellow soldier in the trenches (Shawn Michaels) and stabbed in the back by someone he considered a friend (Earl Hebner) all at once.
Bret's relationship with WWE was never the same again, and it still isn't even after apologies have been offered and peace has been made. At least there's common ground now, something that couldn't be said for around 13 years. Silly or otherwise, it meant the world to Hart that he and Shawn publicly called a truce on Raw in 2010.
Irrespective of one's own individual thoughts on the Screwjob, Bret didn't need to do that. He had carried baggage for over a decade though, and he wanted it off his shoulders.
