10 Most CRINGE Things Wrestling Fans Always Say
2. "Politics Has No Place In Wrestling!"
After a recent episode of AEW Collision went off-air, CM Punk and FTR ruffled some feathers when they spotted a sign saying "Support LGBTQ+ Youth" and invited its owner in the ring to talk about the issue. The most prominent critic was Dutch Mantel (best known to modern wrestling fans as WWE's Zeb Colter), who tweeted "Is this a wise move... involving a political issues (sic) on a wrestling show?"
On the one hand, we agree - wrestling really should stay out of politics. Does anyone else remember that "match" between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton impersonators on RAW a few years ago? (If not, your ignorance is to be envied).
Here's the thing though - Being nice isn't a political issue.
When the owner of a company shoves their preferred presidential candidate down his audience's throat, that's political. Encouraging empathy and acceptance towards others has nothing to do with politics - it's just basic human decency.
WhatCulture's señor Hamflett recently wrote that "WWE is awesome when, against type, it's just nice", and the same applies to all wrestling. Wrestlers appealing to our better angels should be applauded, not vilified.
