10 Most Cringeworthy WWE Backstage Segments

2. Father & Son

God bless the effort made by Kurt Angle to get over what already felt like a completely sunken storyline as it was being paid off. The Olympic Gold Medalist had preached this level of conviction in his 2017 Hall Of Fame induction speech just months earlier to those in the audience that were less than enamoured with their creative direction, and was forced to test his mettle when pretending to have illegitimately fathered the former American Alpha member in a backstage sit-down with Renee Young.

Summoning excellent emotion in the face of some rather silly scripting, Kurt carried the load where the more experienced NXT graduate could not. For all their beaming smiles and adoring glances to one another, the staged sterility of the entire thing hung like a stench between them, rendering most of the back-and-forth completely unwatchable.

Somehow, the remnants of the thickened plot remain. Jason Jordan went down with a neck injury at the start of 2018 whilst Angle still resides in the Raw General Manager's office. A return before Christmas should suggest if the company are still somehow committed to the bit.
